Bigger and Better 'Railway in Wartime' Event 2017 Friday 13th, Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th October This October, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is delighted to announce that both the Saturday and Sunday parade will be bigger and better in 2017. After a review of the event in 2016, and collaborating with Pickering in Business, we will be bringing back both the military and civilian vehicle parades across the weekend. On Saturday 14th October, the foot parade will be led by the Yorkshire Corps of Drums and will include all disciplines of the military, followed by a vast array of 1940s military vehicles. Sunday 15th will see the return of the civilian vehicle parade with classic vehicles such as 1930s Austin 10, Rolls-Royce convertible and period motorcycles. Over the three-day event families can hop on board steam and heritage diesel trains and relive the amazing spirit and camaraderie of World War II, whilst enjoying various war-themed entertainment and vehicle displays at stations along the iconic North Yorkshire Moors Railway line. Each station will be transformed to create a variety of scenarios and performances including a wartime street, ‘The Sidings’, at Pickering, Home Guard demonstrations at Goathland and RAF themed Grosmont, with a replica mk9 Spitfire. Levisham will once again be transformed into the German-occupied French village of Le Visham with re-enactment displays and Café Allée du Bois. At RAF Grosmont, visitors will have the chance to experience a plotting room, where the RAF monitor and track the enemy and a dispersal hut. There will also be a farewell tour of ‘Company B’ theatre group. Not only that, Pickering will have live performances from international cabaret artist, Paul Harper and NEW for 2017 ‘The Voice of Vintage’ plus much more. Ampleforth College Big Band will also play a repertoire of music from the 1930s and 1940s at Pickering station on the Sunday afternoon. In honour of those who fought tirelessly to ensure our freedom today, there will be wreath-laying ceremonies at Pickering and Grosmont stations. The railway will also be launching the Dame Vera Lynn appeal over the wartime event. Help us return back to traffic 3672 Dame Vera Lynn so visitors can enjoy the sight and sound of a genuine wartime locomotive! nymr.co.uk/appeal/3672-dame-vera-lynn For further information or to pre-book tickets online before your visit please go to nymr.co.uk/wartime For regular news, updates and competitions, North Yorkshire Moors Railway is also on Facebook facebook.com/northyorkshiremoorsrailway/ and Twitter twitter.com/nymr.
